And he remembers when he was a young man in college desperate to make a bit of extra money so he made a sperm donation for payment. If you’re not a big fan of crime fiction or consistent-paced thrillers (instead, preferring to stick to those that make your skin crawl a bit), I’d recommend skipping this one.

Short to mid-length chapters keep the reader guessing and wondering, all while trying to make sense of what’s really taking place, a trademark Barclay style. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.I should add that if you are adopted or your parent(s) used a sperm donor, you may feel very differently about this story as you're coming at it through a different lens.

Someone else is obviously working from the same list of names and is determined to eliminate them and to erase every possible speck of their biological DNA. They’re excellent comfort reads when you want to follow an interesting story that is gripping but that does not leave you looking over your shoulder. Quite a bit of misdirection before you guess the true villian but the true hero of the book is a dying man who wants to help others.

In Find You First, he surpasses his own past successes with a multi-strand plot that bounces, in short, cliff-hanging chapters… Propelled by Dickensian twists of fate and Hitchcockian suspense, the book is populated by a large and colorful cast, including some chillingly pragmatic hit-people, a couple of foolishly adulterous spouses, a desperately lonely comic-book fan and an underage runaway in a gilded cage. Born in the US, his parents moved to Canada just as he was turning four, and he's lived there ever since. Miles feels obligated to inform them that they may have inherited his disease and should be tested for that grim possibility. There are a few characters here, and at times I struggled with keeping up with them all, and that did stall the story for me.

Cue the panic: Miles finds out he has a gaggle of kids from a despo-for-cash sperm donation years ago. It was a crazy ride of a mad cap adventure with some laugh out loud moments and I think it is best enjoyed if you don’t take it too seriously or expect too much plausibility. While this may not be as riveting as Barclay’s earlier work ( No Time for Goodbye or Never Look Away), it is an enjoyable, taut thriller that never lets up on the intrigue as it races to tie everything together.I’m definitely going to be following Linwood Barclay and his books, even if they won’t be my first choice for a “thriller”. As Miles starts on his journey to find his potential offspring Chloe Swanson is simultaneously on a quest to find her biological father. The storyline of the millionaire looking for his children seemed like a straightforward plot, but there are lots of twists that make the story really intriguing.
