Rechargeable Ni-MH battery (AA, HR6) x 6 Current Draw 155 mA Expected battery life under continuous use Alkaline battery: Approximately 20 hours Consider them the ultimate compact amps with high-quality, powerful sound. The cutting-edge speakers used in the MICRO CUBE RX are custom designed and built specially for these amps. Stereo Power Amps Essentially, COSM is the technology behind Roland’s modeling amplifiers – like the Micro GX. The ability for a guitarist to call up a classic amp, along with a matched mic’d speaker cab takes things to another level. Do not be deterred by the seemingly tiny 5w power rating; this amp will handle a moderately populated street. However, despite having more projection and better sound quality than the smaller Roland Micro Cube, at a higher volume this amp loses a lot of its clarity, becoming tonally muddy. The sound of the Tanglewood T6 is excellent, and has great connectivity for extending your sound to other powered speakers or to a PA system. The effects are useable but are very basic, you may wish you add your own pedals, but for the price this amp is a great basis for a great performance.

Designed as a recording amp, the Yamaha THR5A is not at all limited to just one environment. The effects are of a high quality and very user-friendly. The tone sweep control is very subtle. Your setting will be saved. After that you can toggle between the saved sound and the current settings effectively creating a dual channel amp. You could save a lead guitar sound in the memory and use the ‘live’ sound for rhythm and then switch between the two. The sounds: but first, what in God’s name is COSM? The Micro Cube is the first Cube amplifier that runs on battery or AC power. Using six “AA” alkaline batteries, you can play for up to 20 hours—thanks to the Micro Cube’s high-efficiency amplifier. A carrying strap is also included, allowing you to be heard just about anywhere you want. And the sound? It’s a Cube, so you know it sounds great! 7 Classic and Modern Amp Models Its endless possibilities of sound, cabinet and amp modelling configurations, paired with the Spark app, make it one of the most interesting on this list. Small in stature but not in sound, the Micro Cube crams in those legendary Roland cleans alongside, blues crunch, metal distortion and wild FX. Never leave home without great tone. Huge Tone to GoLooking for the sound of Roland’s JC-120 Jazz Chorus or your favorite British combo amp? You’ll find those and more in the Micro Cube, thanks to seven COSM amp models. Roland’s COSM technology is the only modeling method that captures every nuance of the original amps—from the preamp and circuits to the speaker. All you need is the Micro Cube for perfect tone. High-Quality Effects But you can also use this output to plug directly into your audio interface and Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) allowing you to access the Cube GX’s great tones in a recording application. Let’s not forget the Roland Micro Cube GX is a modeling amp which means it goes far beyond conventional amp layouts which may only feature two channels (clean and overdrive), three band EQ and volume and gain controls.

The 25w version is loud enough for the average busk, whereas the 40w version will give you lots of headroom with the benefit of a larger speaker. You basically have two controls. The first offers chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, and heavy octane – which is essentially like using an octave pedal where you hear not only the note you’re playing, but also, simultaneously, the same note an octave lower. Nice on lead work, but it can get a bit muddy on chords. Nice to have though. The Phones/Recording output serves two purposes: Plug in a set of headphones and enjoy private practice with lush, stereo sound, or plug directly into a stereo mixer or recording device for accurate signal transfer directly from the MICRO CUBE RX. Inputs They come in a range of sizes to suit the intended use. The smallest 15w version weighs a mere 5kg. The largest of the range, the 500w, still only weighs 17kg. You might think this extremely low weight would reduce the bass response, but you will be pleasantly surprised, as they sound just as good as an amp 3x the weight. With a fresh set of batteries or rechargeable batteries, mobile use without a power outlet is possible for about 20-25 hours. The Micro Cube is worn on a mini-guitar strap, which clamps to strap pins on the side.

The New Standard in Ultra-Compact Amps

Depending on your situation and choice of musical genre, you may be able to use them in a band rehearsal scenario – but it’s pushing the boundary to be honest. You’re not going to be heard over an over enthusiastic drummer banging away. It may seem a bit flimsy and non-durable. As the cheapest option here, consider it as the budget practice amp of preference. It is also battery-powered, like the Micro Cube. With all this, you get enough types of sound in which to play different styles, and considering they are only amp simulations, they do an outstanding job and come quite close to the real thing, considering price point and size. Answer: Depending on the size and power, there is the 10GX, which is the smallest, the 20GX, 40GX, and even 80GX. Question: If I plan to go busking, which is the best option for me? On each effect setting, there is the option to increase (or decrease) the volume of the effect from subtle to full-on.
