The first third of this anthology, “Childhood Reimagined,” consists of fairy tales from European traditions that highlight the beauty of Black characters. African and African-American Folktales, amidst tales set in Africa, we find the story of John Henry, pictured when he was a young boy.

It was fun seeing Vhalla grow into the role of Empress – and her fights against the foolish conventions were entertaining. They retell, change up, and create past, present, and future tales from Black culture across the diaspora. In the fall of 2000, the company's debt was purchased by Wells Fargo, which hounded the reemerging brand with collection fees until it eventually broke.

Our Stories Retold,” the volume’s middle section, presents African and African American tales, from the familiar (“John Henry, the Steel Drivin’ Man”) to ones that may be new to many readers (“Aku, the Sun Maker”). The illustrations are rich and gorgeous, though there were a couple of stories that were too digitally manipulated for my tastes. The book was released May 23, three days before the live action film The Little Mermaid premiered with Halle Bailey, a Black woman with natural locs, as Ariel, a princess and the main character. This collection is a must-have for children and parents everywhere and is a joyous celebration of Black beauty and imagination. For a while, they worked in the children's fashion industry, capturing headshots for adolescent actors and shooting campaigns for kids' brands.

Regis and Kahran Bethencourt are a husband-and-wife duo and the imaginative forces behind CreativeSoul Photography. As it was every morning the first meal of the day was eaten in the council room before the daily tasks were talked about. Bold, nationalistic, and unrelenting, Christophe long occupied outside imaginations that for a century subjected him to myth and ridicule. For example, Hansel and Gretel is quite baffling to me because its origin is most likely in blood libel cases against Jewish midwives during the medieval period who were attempting to use ovens as a proto incubator to help premature babies survive, and this was misunderstood even though sleeping on or near the stove in winter to keep warm was a common practice. Crown Books was a bookseller headquartered in Prince George's County, Maryland, with a Largo post office address.

The intense photography with fantastical costumes and makeup also reminded me of Natasha Tarpley's "The Me I Choose to be", and now I see that the Bethencourts did the photography for that as well.

I love when there are teachable moments that teach kids values like sharing and being kind instead of stories that are just about superficiality.
