While this book is a romance, the added mother/daughter relationship and how it impacted Audrey so significantly is what takes this book from an average rom-com to a romance with more depth. guy, the man she met six years ago and had one amazing day with but never saw again - Audrey can't help but see it as a sign.
The multiple timelines were a lot to keep track of and juggle, but I thought it worked really well to reveal what happened between all of the characters. My third read by Cousens, and whilst I wouldn't say this was my favorite from her, it was still very solid, such that she is becoming a pretty reliable author for me personally. These characters were fun to get to know, and Cousens did an amazing job flushing out each and every one of them. Cousens injects her book with some great moments of humour, plenty of warmth and some genuinely touching moments too, such as when Audrey reads the last letter her Dad wrote to her.
Her anxiety is made worse when Josh's sister arrives for the rehearsal dinner with her plus one: Fred. It was something that I never thought I'd do, or something that I would hold off on for a few years yet. You may want to shake Audrey while reading, but there's reasons why she feels the way she does, and why she feels so off.So, I did just that and walked away from the month with 52,000 more words under my belt, and half of a new novel!

Her writing is on pitch and thoughtful, balancing serious ideas, like family trauma and the nature of love and commitment, with a light-hearted touch. When Minnie unexpectedly runs into Quinn at a New Year's party on their mutual thirtieth birthday, she sees only more evidence that fortune has continued to favor him. A funny, insightful, properly swoony rom-com , Before I Do genuinely had me stumped as to which way Audrey would go, and perplexed as to what I wanted her to do.
On the eve of her wedding to Josh, Audrey is completely thrown when Josh's sister turns up with a face from Audrey's past as her date for the wedding. I like that the author could her you to understand the character and start to like her more as the book progresses. What if she’s making a mistake like her mother Vivian who married five times and never found her HEA?
