That being said, I didn't get a great sense of character for most of the protagonists of these adventures. Marshal Rafe Collins knows nasty Prince (name not title) McCarran drugged drink, murdered former owner and stole ownership proof, so Matt clears Jenny's land claim, shoots it out with Prince and his gunman Sikes, and will stay until she sends him away, so "a very long time" p213. One of the nights, I found myself holding a tiny baby boy as his mother and her friends asked me questions about my life.
These moralistic tales have a definite timeless quality to them and a breakneck pace that had me flying through the pages. We sometimes make mistakes in our spelling, transcription or categorisation, or miss information out of our records. As a result, the short story is fleshed out and a bit of L'amour's life is interjected as well since the posse chase was based upon a memoir by L'Amour when he traveled the area as a younger man.
