About this deal

I picked the book as the title stood out to me ‘The Horse Dancer’ as I thought it might vaguely feature horses. Her easy storytelling ability makes them an easy, accessible read and there is usually some sort of romantic complication, in this case, unresolved issues between Natasha and Mac, that make for moistened eyes at some point.

With THE HORSE DANCER, JoJo Moyes has written a poignant story of relationships—primarily, the relationship of a young girl named Sarah, her grandfather, Captain, and their dream of Sarah becoming an elite horseman with the Le Cadre Noir in France with Sarah’s beloved horse, Boo. Sarah's second love is her horse Boo who she spends all of her available time with at his stables, owned by one of her grandfather's oldest friends, Cowboy John. The book starts with Henri meeting his future wife Florence, an English girl who saw him perform and whose presence in the crowd captivated Henri.Natasha has a boyfriend, Conor, a partner from the law firm she works for and seems to be settling into a new life. He loved horses and had made it to the top level during his time at the Cadre Noir but gave it all up for love when he met Florence an English girl who he married.

In a hidden corner of London, Henri Lachapelle is teaching his granddaughter and her horse to defy gravity, just as he had done in France, fifty years previously. If you don’t really see the point of horses, I’m not sure you will care enough about what’s going on…although this book may change that for you. Sarah is a beautifully drawn character that I instantly felt so much for, especially when her situation in life becomes so dire that she is forced into making drastic and potentially life-altering decisions. Sarah and Henri, her “Papa” visit and train at the stableyard until Papa suffers a debilitating stroke and Sarah’s world is thrown into confusion. They inhabit a small flat in London and house Baucher, known as Boo in an urban stableyard run by Cowboy John, an American ex-pat who followed a woman to England but never left. Their relationship was a little too much rollercoaster and I think she has refined her writing since. Faced with losing her horse and her grandfather, the two things about which she cares the most deeply and the dual centres of her world, Sarah tries to manage on her own until she is forced to act, and aims to fulfil the dream that her grandfather always had for her – to join Le Cadre Noir. Jojo Moyes’ story is based partly from her own youth spent at inner city stables and a moving tale of a child from Philadelphia, who overcame her lot in life to be chosen to ride for Yale before tragedy struck her family.

The Horse Dancer connects the lives of Sarah and Natasha in an enchanting and deeply romantic tale about the grace and beauty of second chances. When Sarah’s grandfather gives her a beautiful horse named Boo—hoping that one day she’ll follow in his footsteps to join an elite French riding school, away from their gritty London neighborhood—she quietly trains in city’s parks and alleys. Jag tycker att den här funkar även om du inte är hästintresserad, för att den innehåller så mycket fler teman och aspekter. Her books include the bestsellers Me Before You, After You and Still Me, The Girl You Left Behind, The One Plus One and her short story collection Paris for One and Other Stories.I think if you weren’t into horses that you would still find it a great read as it is so well written. This is told as a flashback and shows how Henri is in disgrace at Le Cadre Noir for fighting with another horseman, someone who was insulting of Florence and wanted to humiliate Henri infront of everyone out of jealousy and spite. Anyone who is a regular visitor to and reader of my blog will know that I have a liking of Jojo Moyes’ books. They are trying to sell the house that they jointly own to settle the finances and as a result of this, Mac, a photographer, moves back in with Natasha, insisting that he needs somewhere to stay while he has work in London and as he owns half of the house, it should be okay to stay there.
