Whether it be a piece of garment, accessory, or home décor item, you can create the project you have been dreaming about using the HD-1000 Black Edition's 14 built-in stitches and one four-step buttonhole. My last machine just didn't last that long, however, and I was disappointed and honestly never felt like the motor on it was ever all that strong anyway compared to others of similar models in the past.

Bought it because of the brand and as my eyes aren't that good anymore I was sold on the" self threading" feature . Mechanical machines are wonderful, but remember you are 100% in control the machine is not going to do anything for you. I don’t plan on sewing a lot of carpet after this project but I do plan to make more bags and weird cosplays, so I’ll be sewing marine vinyl, faux and real leather, heavy interfacing, possibly denim or canvas, straps, maybe fur, who knows what else!

I was wondering if anyone else has personal experience with this machine, if it's reliable and beginner friendly, or any other reccomendations! The list of standard accessories that come with the Janome HD 1000 includes all the necessary things to make the sewing experience fun.

The teflon and roller feet were smooth and easy, and the standard foot sucked just as much as usual on vinyl. There are also No Special Guides for Threading on this model and the needle threading is Automatic / Assisted. It is too quite complicated and I still needed someones' else help because I couldn't see what I was doing. I've had it a couple weeks now and after a very short learning curve (where things are and how they are accessed, etc) I'm very pleased with the quality and function of this machine and more than happy I made the switch in brands.

The bobbin tension had to be exactly right to prevent tangling, the needle had to be big enough and sharp enough to puncture the heavy carpet backing, and the carpet dulled the needles very quickly. Unfortunately, the carpet's thickness was more than half of the pressure foot's lift height, so I wasn’t able to sew carpet to carpet.
