A “tamed” version of Iodine this product is the antifungal and antibacterial and is probably the best way of cleaning reptilian wounds – but its not suitable for amphibians. Easy to use, just apply directly to the cut, with cotton wool or a cotton bud – however we would still recommend seeking veterinary advice. Tamodine Wound is a powerful antifungal and antibacterial tamed iodine veterinary medicine. It is ideal for cleansing and dressing wounds and infected areas in conjunction with veterinary treatment. Increased absorption of the cream may occur if the cream is used on thin/ raw skin, on areas where two skin areas touch or rub together, or under dressings. Thinning of the skin is more likely to occur if the cream is used under dressings If you are using Timodine Cream for nappy rash make sure you speak to your doctor about how you should use the cream. Nappies can make it easier for the ingredients of the cream to pass through the skin and it is possible to accidentally end up using too much cream. Fish with carp pox are best isolated if badly affected and treated occasionally with CHLORAMINE T to keep secondary bacterial infections at bay. Recovery from this viral disease is usually spontaneous as the immune system gets going by June/July. Timodine Cream contains four different medicines called nystatin, hydrocortisone, dimeticone and benzalkonium chloride. If there is a worsening of your condition during use consult your prescriber – you may be experiencing an allergic reaction, have an infection or your condition requires a different treatment. If you experience a recurrence of your condition shortly after stopping treatment, within 2 weeks, do not restart using the cream without consulting your prescriber unless your prescriber has previously advised you to do so. If your condition has resolved and on recurrence the redness extends beyond the initial treatment area and you experience a burning sensation, please seek medical advice before restarting treatment.

Where two folds of skin rub together, chafing can occur, leading to a sore inflamed area of skin. This particularly happens in places such as the groin or under the breasts where frequent sweating occurs. This combination of irritated skin and wetness is called intertrigo. The same condition happens under babies’ nappies and is known as nappy rash. In both intertrigo and nappy rash the inflamed skin is easily infected by germs, in particular a fungus called Candida albicans. Timodine Cream is specially formulated to ease the soreness and treat the infections in intertrigo and inflamed nappy rash. Carp are by nature a warmwater fish. However they are extremely tolerant and will overwinter perfectly well in unheated ponds. EFSA (2008) suggests that carp will tolerate down to 2oC - actually they will go lower but some will die through stress or superchill. adrenal glands may stop working properly. Symptoms of this may include tiredness, depression and anxiety Fish have a body temperature which essentially mirrors that of the environment and the temperature at which they would be expected to freeze and die would be the freezing point of their blood plasma. They have been shown to be able to resist this by 1oC in ways not really understood except in the presence of ice formation. The presence of ice appears to encourage the formation of ice crystals in the skin and circulation, resulting in death.

Timodine Cream can also be used to treat the following skin conditions when there is infection with Candida albicans:Working with fish multifilament nets present special problems for disinfection due to the weave. This has been shown to require special efforts, as fish mucus has a way of entering the weave of the net as it moves under the weight of the fish. This can take pathogens with it and then they can be effectively hidden from disinfection. We suggest after use they be dropped into a tank and left overnight in a combination of Ark-Klens and Virkon Aquatic. Virkon Aquatic contains tensides to help the disinfectant penetrate but the special problems of nets bear extra effort. This mixture should be rinsed off before nets are used.
