About this deal

Tuesday– Lord Jesus, our Good Shepherd, the souls of the just want for nothing in Your presence. It is You who have given them their heart’s desire, You who have guided them on Your pathways, and led them to Your eternal place of refreshment. As you have prepared a banquet for them, so now fill them with Your mercy and peace. May goodness and kindness follow them to Your dwelling place forever and ever. Amen.

Referring to that day’s Gospel (Matthew 11:25-30) at Padre Pio’s canonization Mass in 2002, Saint John Paul II said: “The Gospel image of ‘yoke’ evokes the many trials that the humble Capuchin of San Giovanni Rotondo endured. Today we contemplate in him how sweet is the ‘yoke’ of Christ and indeed how light the burdens are whenever someone carries these with faithful love. The life and mission of Padre Pio testify that difficulties and sorrows, if accepted with love, transform themselves into a privileged journey of holiness, which opens the person toward a greater good, known only to the Lord.” The Annual Padre Pio Triduum takes place at the National Shrine of St. Pio, Church Street, Dublin 7 – on Thursday 21st, Friday 22nd and 23rd September 2023. Filming occurred in Apulia, Italy, in December 2021. [7] The first place was at the Capuchin friary in San Marco la Catola. Padre Pio exchanged letters with his provincial and spiritual director while living in Pietrelcina with his family. The time was around 1909-1916. Both directors were living in San Marco during these years. Padre Pio expressed in his letters his deep and mysterious relationship with God and health difficulties. This event is in the film. While filming, LaBeouf slept in Padre Pio's bedroom. [4] Pio was looking at all of this and saying, ‘I want to take this all upon myself as a suffering servant to help them.’ He didn’t know that the stigmata will be the purpose to help these people out. But it ended up being just that. The stigmata didn’t just happen on its own, in other words,” he said. "Padre Pio," starring Shia LaBeouf, airs in theaters June 2, 2023. Credit: Gravitas Ventures. On Jan. 22, 1903, Francesco donned the Franciscan habit for the first time. He took the new name Pio, a modernized Italian form of “Pius,” in honor of Pope St. Pius V. He made his solemn vows four years later, and received priestly ordination in the summer of 1910. Shortly after, he first received the Stigmata – Christ’s wounds, present in his own flesh. Thursday– O Lord God, our hope and our consolation, look favorably on the souls of our deceased loved ones. As we pray today for them, and all the faithful departed, we ask that You grant the fullness of Your peace and joy to our beloved deceased who have finished the race and have kept the faith. May You give them the heavenly crown of victory, for they longed to see Your face. And one day may we all share their joy together in the Kingdom where You live forever and ever. Amen. The name Elizabeth, which has been borne by several saints, means in Hebrew "worshiper of God." All that we know of Elizabeth, wife of Zachary and mother of John the Baptist, is to be found in the book of Luke. A descendant of the priestly line of Aaron, she was a kinswoman - how close we are not told – of the Virgin Mary. During this time, the Centre will be open for people to come and go as they wish, and to speak with Volunteers and Capuchin Friars from the National Pilgrimage Ceremonies close for the evening. We will conclude with Night Prayer to Padre Pio – by a Capuchin Friar His canonization miracle involved the cure of Matteo Pio Colella, age 7, the son of a doctor who works in the House for Relief of Suffering, the hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo. On the night of June 20, 2000, Matteo was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital with meningitis. By morning doctors had lost hope for him as nine of the boy's internal organs had ceased to give signs of life. That night, during a prayer vigil attended by Matteo's mother and some Capuchin friars of Padre Pio's monastery, the child's condition improved suddenly. When he awoke from the coma, Matteo said that he had seen an elderly man with a white beard and a long, brown habit, who said to him: "Don't worry, you will soon be cured." The miracle was approved by the Congregation and Pope John Paul II on 20 December 2001. As long as we are wayfarers on this earth we can never be perfect…we can never enjoy perfect peace.

St. Paul warns us that those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. b) The New Testament fulfillment. Mosaic festivals were shadows which took on flesh and blood in the Church of Christ. Good Friday was the real, the unique day of atonement in the sight of God. How well St. Paul affirmed this truth in the Epistle of today’s Mass: “Christ appeared as the high priest of coming (Messianic) blessings. He entered the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by human hands (i.e., heavenly in nature) not with the blood of goats and steers but with His own blood—once and for all He entered the (heavenly) Holy of Holies—after He had effected an eternal redemption (i.e., one with lasting effects in contrast to the annually repeated Jewish day of atonement).” For the sacrifice on the Cross constituted the perfect reconciliation of God with mankind; and every holy Mass, as it renders present that sacrifice on Golgotha, is Yom Kippur par excellence.a b Mulderig, John (1 June 2023). "Movie Review: 'Padre Pio' ". The Catholic Review. The screenplay suggests points of coherence between Marxism and Christianity. But if that sounds like an uneasy mix, the attempted blending of the events unfolding inside the walls of the Franciscan refuge and those transpiring beyond it is equally unstable. Intercut between scenes of Shia’s self-flagellation is a story of a village traumatized by World War I that’s contending with the upcoming first free election in Italy. It leads to endless debates over worker’s rights and socialism that feel oddly hollow, in part because Ferrara inexplicably directs an Italian cast to speak in English for no discernable reason, especially when LaBeouf doesn’t even try to put on an accent himself. It comes off clunky, like an odd piece of Italian community theater about a chapter of the country’s history that no one involved seems particularly interested in telling. According to Abel Ferrara, actor Willem Dafoe suggested that Shia LaBeouf should be cast for the film's leading role. After Ferrara held several Zoom calls with LaBeouf, the latter agreed to join the film, [4] even though very little money was raised (the film was almost never made) and LaBeouf did the project for free. In the Epistle St. Paul shows how the ceremonies of the old covenant were types of the new; our day of atonement is Good Friday when Christ, the divine High Priest, entered the most holy sanctuary of heaven with His own Blood and wrought eternal redemption; every Mass is Good Friday repeated. In the Tract we chant the shortest Laud psalm as we express our gratefulness for God’s merciful work of redemption and HIs fidelity in fulfilling the prophecies. During this time, the Centre will be open for people to come and go as they wish, and to speak with Volunteers and Capuchin Friars from the National Shrine of St. Pio in Dublin. According to legend, Linus was martyred and buried on the Vatican Hill alongside his beloved Peter. Eternal rest grant unto them , O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. The film premiered at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on 2 September 2022. It was released in the United States on 2 June 2023 by Gravitas Ventures. Francesco had already decided at a young age to dedicate his entire life to God. At age 10, he felt inspired by the example of a young Capuchin Franciscan, and told his parents: “I want to be a friar – with a beard.” Francesco’s father spent time in America, working to finance his son’s education so he could enter the religious life.
