About this deal

There are four boxes in the Ocean range, starting with the Ocean 80 offering 320 litres of extra luggage space, followed by the Ocean 100 with 360 litres. The Ocean 600 is a narrower, half width roof box but still has a capacity of 330 litres and finally the Ocean 200 is the largest in the range and offers 450 litres of added luggage space. The Ocean 200 is large. Huge in fact. However, despite its gargantuan size, the box is surprisingly lightweight. In fact it is only 14kg and its external size is 175 x 82 x 45 cm. Lifting it onto the roof bars can be easily done by one person, although the box can be easily scratched so we'd recommend using two people. I have a Thule Pacific 200 on Thule Wing Bars and it's more than big enough for us. It doesn't overhang the windscreen and it also doesn't interfere with the boot or the sharkfin antenna. It looks like there should also enough space to fit a cycle carrier (one only) next to it if you move the roofbox over to the side of the car. Some roof boxes can slow your car down by over 30% which can hit your wallet in fuel costs. This is due to the added weight and drag of the roof box. How Aerodynamic

The performance of this Thule Ocean model is pretty good, but there are still questions of the build and longevity. If that sounds like too much then you can opt for smaller load carriers. The Thule Ocean range starts with the Ocean 80 - with 320 litres of luggage space - and moves up to the Ocean 100 with 360 litres of space. There’s also the Ocean 600 which surprisingly has less space than the Ocean 100 at 330 litres, but is a narrower, half width roof box. Others concur as they also found that their luggage remained dry. This is a promising benefit considering one of the downsides below. If you think I left any out that should be included or have a suggestion for a future article, let me know in the comments below. This is one of their lower-end models, but still promises to offer the capacity, protection and ease of use that drivers need. Is this the case, or could Thule add more to this car roof box? I'm also keen on being able to mount a cycle carrier on the roof so the longer / narrow box may be better. Is it better, on the sportage, to have a shorter but wider roof box, or, a longer and thinner roof box? Obviously need to ensure the box does not overhang the windscreen, nor impede the opening of the boot. And in terms of width, you don’t want anything too narrow that will mean you’re having to squash bags, and potentially crushing any belongings. Weight The customer satisfaction rating for this box is very high. Much of that comes down to the capacity and ease of use for larger families. This roofbox measure 135cm by 89 by 39. this means a good length and depth for all kinds of items.

What you go for may also depend on the specific items you’d like to travel with. If you’re going fishing, unless you have telescopic rods, you may be looking for a longer roof box.If you still want to max out on your capacity with a shorter roof box they are then likely to be taller to compensate. Bear in mind this can also affect aerodynamics and negatively affect the gas mileage. Car roof boxes are large, sturdy boxes that attach to the top of your car and provide secure, weather-proof storage for all types of gear. They free up passenger space and are available in a range of styles and sizes.

The Thule roof box only weighs 13.5kg when empty, so it isn’t too hard to attach it to the roof. It is sold as the budget, smaller model, with simple U-bolt fittings, but there are no complaints about this approach. It lifts up to reveal the contents and remains secure on the road. If you plan to travel a lot then I would recommend spending a bit more on your roof box. Not only will they tend to be more durable, they are also more likely to include features that may well be more useful i.e. one that you can load from both sides. How They Open The design and capacity of this Thule 688006 Ocean 80 Roof Box are a great starting point for the majority of users. Roof boxes can be expensive, and they are on the whole certainly pricier than their soft counterparts, roof bags. There is also the direction in which they open – some open left, right or directions. Others are clamshell in nature and open upwards. Impact On Gas MileageAs mentioned previously, the Ocean range was introduced as a ‘budget’ range, but this doesn’t affect any of the traits of the Thule quality. Here we’ll discuss the model range to help you find the roof box that best suits your needs. Why chose a Thule roofbox? Options for 1-2 working day delivery and next day timed services available on most items Zone B Surcharge Areas A range of sizes are available to suit your needs including the narrow design of the Ocean 600 allows for other roof mounted accessories to be fitted alongside such as a cycle carrier. All of the boxes in the Ocean range have a maximum load capacity of 50kg allowing you to get all your holiday gear in! The likelihood here is that this car top box will perform as users hope. The capacity and design are enough to win over plenty of families. Therefore, the Thule roof box is highly recommendable for those that frequently take long car journeys.

Short style roof boxes are good for smaller vehicles with a shorter roof. You need to ensure you box is sized correctly so it does not affect your line of sight or cause you to drive erratically. Most car roof boxes are designed to fit most cars – the key factor is to ensure there is enough space on your car roof.
