About this deal

a b c "Twisted Wonderland Gameplay System". 【公式】ディズニー ツイステッドワンダーランド(ツイステ) (in Japanese). Aniplex . Retrieved November 30, 2021. Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The story's default name for them is Yuu, but players can change the story name to whatever they want. Most characters just call them 'Supervisor' (the title they're given by Crowley in the prologue) regardless of what you name them.

Nice Guy: Despite his intimidating appearance, he's not a bad guy and does what he can to help others. For those who don’t know, this manga is an adaptation of the popular mobile game Twisted Wonderland, which was released in Japan in 2020 and received an English localization in 2022. It’s about a magical academy called Night Raven College populated by pretty anime boys based on classic Disney villains. Riddle is based on the Queen of Hearts, Leona on Scar, etc. Only Sane Man: Yuu is often the only one who comments on the ridiculousness of what is going on around them. Unfortunately, they can also easily get carried along with the flow of the situation. Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Comic Episode of Savanaclaw 1. Square Enix . Retrieved June 29, 2023. In the comic, Yuuken got transported to Night Raven College at the beginning of the ceremony instead of before the ceremony began like in the game.Last-Name Basis: Downplayed. Yuuken's kendo club members refer to him by his last name. When Yuuken told Crowley his full name, he calls him by his first name. However, Crowley has no idea about Japan or their culture, it's possible Crowley thought "Yuuken" is his last name and his family name "Enma" is his first name. The first manga portrayal of Yuu that was first introduced in the story Disney Twisted Wonderland - Episode of Heartslabyul. The English translation retcons this moment, instead having Grim wish to become a powerful mage and showing no ungratefulness towards Yuu for giving up their chance to wish for something. The Gadfly: Tapping on certain characters on the home screen reveals that Yuu is poking them, tugging on their sleeves or outright hitting them, much to some of the characters’ annoyance. Those Two Guys: Paired with Grim in and out of the main story. Even when an event story shifts the perspective onto another character, they’re always with Grim doing something off-screen.

Informed Ability: According to Silver in one of his home screen dialogues, Yuu is skilled with a sword. The player never sees this and it has yet to come into play in the story proper. Averted in the Manga adaptation in which Yuuken is depicted as an active participant in Kendo activities to the point of being the captain of his team. The Main Characters Do Everything: Somehow ends up helping to solve the problems of each respective dorm in the main story with the help of the featured characters, to the point where the other students have apparently taken note of it, according to Jamil. He’ll also sometimes contribute to the problems at times due to his ego.

Protagonist Without a Past: Not much is known about Yuu other than them being from another world and that they're implied to be connected to Twisted Wonderland, after all. It’s like a natural evolution and subversion of the original Disney movies that told you to “be good”. While being good is obviously a good thing, the ability to have the traits of classic Disney heroes—kindness, courage, motivation—is something that has not been made possible for many of the traumatized teens of NRC. Instead, the story watches them as they (through many trials) learn how to become as good as they can be, for themselves. They learn how to support themselves and achieve their goals. Book Dumb: Dumb enough that he would take Azul's contract for test marks. A voice line with Crewel also has Yuu looking away when Crewel declares that he wouldn't accept students under his tutelage getting horrible grades, heavily implying that Grim is this trope and this affects his grades together with Yuu's own.

Featureless Protagonist: The game version of Yuu has no canon design. Averted in the novel and manga adaptations of the game, in which the other versions of Yuu have their appearances either described or shown. The Smurfette Principle: She's this by virtue of being the sole female character in an otherwise male main cast. Badass Normal: Following Yuuken with Kendo, Yuuka does Judo and is The Ace of her school's Judo club. There's one problem with Yu being summoned to this academy, though: he has no magic and therefore cannot be allowed to enroll in this academy. He's fine with this but he can't find a way home just yet, so the headmaster of the academy allows him to stay and work as their janitor until he does (and honestly, I'm happy to see such calmness and nonchalance in an issekai manga by our main character and that it's not a typical "let's enroll him immediately anyway because he's probably some great hero" trope--the Dark Mirror legitimately tells him that he doesn't belong here). Cue several other characters designed specifically to stir up trouble and get him into shenanigans that threaten to expel them all from the academy. It's very straightforward with its plot and I appreciate that it plays its tropes straight. Cats Are Superior: Very much believes he is the greatest magician in all of Twisted Wonderland, not to mention his interactions with Yuu seems to be based on the saying that "cats have staff".
