About this deal

Awarded 5 years in a row (1998-2002) with the First place and Gold medal in the premium rums category in the “International Rum Tasting Contest” of the Caribbean Week's Rum Taste Test. Ron Zacapa has consistently received high praise from critics and has garnered numerous awards at international spirits competitions. The rum’s quality and craftsmanship have solidified its position as one of the world’s premier rums. Upon tasting, the rum is not as sweet as I was expecting. The nosing suggested it could be as sweet as XM or El Dorado. The Zacapa is actually quite dry and oaky. I find the flavour builds if you leave the rum in your mouth for a little longer allowing it to coat the palate. You then get some of the cocoa flavour and a little bit of tropical fruit. However, I’m not getting as much of the fruitier sweeter side I have found with other rums. The rum is very smooth and has very little aftertaste or alcohol burn. It is very pleasant to sip and I can see why it is many people’s choice. The Solera system involves blending rums of different ages together. The youngest rum provides sweetness, while the older rum adds complexity and maturity, resulting in a rich, smooth, and well-balanced spirit. Ron Zacapa's rums are aged for up to 23 years, and this extensive ageing process imparts deep flavours and an unrivalled complexity. Sipping it like that has really changed my whole understanding of rum. I've always enjoyed Captain Morgan, but this blows them out of the universe. I'm sipping it right now and it's hard to describe, but...

Vôňa rumu je príjemne sladká a mierne alkoholová. Základ je karamel a drevo, pod tým je možné zacítiť aj tóny vanilky a čokolády s višňami. Veľmi výrazná je dymová aróma po vypálených sudoch. Chuť je ťažšia, no rum nepôsobí presladene, i keď pre priaznivcov suchších rumov bude stále príliš sladký. Poteší dymový akcent s korením. Základ je samozrejme karamel a vanilka. Záver je slabší a nie až tak výrazný, sladší drevitý s karamelom. Krátke zhodnotenie And I absolutely adore how this sits on my tongue. It's sugar... which I guess is to be expected. And I love that. Ale to vôbec nevadí, pretože vyššia valcovitá fľaša so zlatým logom i tak vyzerá veľmi dobre. Obzvlášť podarený je ručne pletený petate krúžok z palmového lístia, ktorý ju odlišuje od iných značiek. Zaujímavý tvar kvapky majú zase priehľadné fľaše so zlatou uzáverou exkluzívnych rumov tejto značky, konkrétne Centenario XO a Centenario Royal. I have tried this rum over a number of sessions. I am pleased I did not review the rum on my initial tasting. This is something I now try to avoid. I find that a lot of the rums I initially enjoy are too sweet for me when I try them the second time around. The rum seems to give you something different each time. I find I am enjoying it more and more. It is a complex drink and something which some rum drinkers will find completely alien as a rum. It’s a very mellow bouquet with intense aromatics, an intriguing level of complexity, and medium-plus diversity. In short, I used a Vinturi Spirit Aerator, and used that to pour the rum into one of the Neat Whiskey Glasses (I don't have a specific rum glass... wouldn't mind some recommendations).

Krásne tmavomahagónový rum má v poháriku mierne sladkastú arómu a vďaka dlhšiemu zreniu aj s výraznejším dymovým akcentom. Trochu dubového dreva a ovocia navrch. Chuťovo sa veľmi neodlišuje od základnej verzie Zacapa 23 Centenario, ale pokročilejší tam určité rozdiely rozpoznajú – základ je ovocný a sladký – hrozienka (alebo skôr višne v čokoláde?), slivky, snáď aj ďatle a mango, výraznejšie je tiež korenie ako klinček, vanilka, škorica a k záveru aj zázvor. Krátke zhodnotenie Given the oily signature of this sipping rum, the pairings for me are rather obvious. You could easily drink this velvety spirit with an equally luscious dessert: given it’s not a sweet overkill for you. Svetlá jantárová farba v poháriku vyzerá naozaj dobre. No a keď ho v ňom necháte trochu vydýchnuť, počastuje vás následne arómou, v ktorej by ste mali ucítiť hlavne vanilku a karamel, maslo, drevo, ale aj mandle, škoricu či pomarančovú kôru. Chuťovo suchší rum charakterizujú najskôr drevité tóny a karamel, objaví sa i marcipán, pomarančová kôra a na celkom solídne dlho trvajúci suchý záver aj marmeláda. The fermentation of the sugarcane juice is done using a strain of yeast extracted from pineapples, adding a unique fruity character to the rum. If you want to contrast and challenge your palate, I would recommend a fresher choice with citrusy top notes, like a key lime pie. Or you could alternatively consider pairing this with a freshly cut ceviche, where the tangy acidity perfectly matches with the rum. Yes it tastes great. No it is not a genuine aged rum. The XO version is IMO less sweet and more what this rum should be, but the 23 has been sweetened to make it more appealing to the American palate. Also, this is not a 23 yr old rum, it is a Solera blend of aged rum the OLDEST of which is 23 yrs, the average age is closer to 6-8 years.Zacapa Centenario 23– samostatne, výborný aj s ľadom, čoraz viac sa uplatňuje aj v miešaných nápojoch Takisto ani tento svieži koktail nemusí byť nevyhnutne z bieleho rumu. Recept: Chuťovo sa vďaka extra času strávenom vo vypálených sudoch vo whisky posúvame smerom k dymovým akcentom. Takisto ako predošlý rum v kolekcii (La Doma), aj tu cítiť výraznejšie chuť cukrovej trstiny. Je však určite ťažší – celkom ľahko sa dá rozoznať sladký karamel a whisky, ale aj mandle, marhuľu a škoricu. Dlhší záver je celkom prekvapivý, nechýbajú dymové tóny (i keď tých čakajte viac skôr v Zacapa Negra). Spomeniem ešte vôňu (hoci práve tú vnímame ako prvú pri degustácii rumu). Tak tá je prirodzene sladká, ľahká s liehovým chvostom. Najviac sa prejavuje vanilka, škorica, mandle, vlašské orechy a muškátový orech.
