About this deal

He's probably ex-army and enjoys being master of his domain. He's a big fish in a little sea. It was a great cast, I know Michael Kitchen and Selina Cadell who played my wife and I enjoyed working with them both." Vicar's daughter Samantha Stewart was transferred from the Mechanised Transport Corps to become a very unconventional driver for Foyle. Bright, cheerful and intelligent, Sam is deeply loyal to her new boss though never in awe of him. She longs to play a bigger part in the investigations and is not afraid to offer her opinions on cases. Very much part of the team, she has become firm friends with Milner. Nicholas Farrell was pleased to be reunited with Michael Kitchen in Foyle's War - even though he plays a rival to Phoebe Nicholls had to resort to some rather drastic measures to encourage her canine co-star to perform in Foyle's War. I had to work with a dog, who is supposed to run into me in the scene. But it was one of the hottest days of the year and I was in full period dress and we had to keep redoing it because the dog wouldn't do the right thing. In the end, I had to clutch some rather smelly cheese in 100 degree heat to make him come to me!"

Emily, who played Alex Kingston's daughter in Boudica and tragic young queen Katherine Howard in Henry VIII with Ray Winstone, comes into the 20th century as struggling farmer's daughter Lucy Markham. Adds Anthony: "You can't help but bring your own personality to a character, especially when it's a new character in a new series. I like to think that I'm loyal and generous, but also driven and enthusiastic. Hopefully that comes across in Milner. I'm not loud or brash and as it turns out, neither is he. The stories in Foyle's War are all inspired by historical truth. Big events, often from a unique and startling angle, are presented side by side with little-known and more surprising facts of life on the home front. Series Two begins in the autumn of 1940.

Michael's career spans film, television and theatre where he has worked extensively for the RSC and Royal National Theatre. Tryhorn, Chris (14 April 2008). "Foyle's War sweeps to victory for ITV". The Guardian. London. Archived from the original on 28 February 2014 . Retrieved 14 April 2008. The episode is filled with tension as Foyle and Sam face obstacles at every turn. They are met with stonewalling, deflecting and outright hostility as they try to piece together what happened to the ship and who was responsible for its sinking. Along the way, they both display their trademark professionalism and perseverance, as they navigate through the complex and dangerous world of wartime investigations. My character Jane does very little apart from going to Haute Couture fashion shows, reading magazines, or hunting, shooting and fishing. She's a bit of a 'Sloane'. I had a great costume designer and we got hold of some authentic clothes from the period. We're filming on the Isle of Man, which is great for me as I'm a bike freak. I ride a Honda CVR600 and of course the TT course is on the island. I also play piano and guitar and I write music and scripts. It's good to be stretched in every way."

Award-winning actor Alan Howard relished playing a barrister with a complicated past in Foyle's War.When Foyle's War is screened, Alan will be appearing at the Live Theatre in Newcastle in Keepers of the Flame. I did New Year's Day, a feature with him which was my big break. I played the lead and Michael was one of the supporting actors. It was a film that took me all around the world and I felt like a kid alongside Michael. This time, I felt like an adult at last." I think the audience are soon ahead of Foyle figuring that Hunter helped invent the gearbox and was cheated by Paige. Horowitz tries to widen the field of suspects such as a passing German spy. She is vulnerable and has a fear of being alone and that's why she's terrified about her brother getting into trouble. We are not too alike because I never feel lonely and have lots of friends," says Emily. Foyle's War: The Complete First Season Blu-ray (Australia)". Blu-ray.com. Archived from the original on 5 January 2018 . Retrieved 15 May 2017.

October 1940: At the London head quarters of a multinational company a young secretary plummets to her death. In Hastings, Foyle is busy acting as a police referee for a series of large-scale Home Guard manoeuvres. When a member of the Home Guard is killed, Foyle and Milner discover some people will do anything to protect trading links with the Nazis. It was nice to get out of uniform and into civvies when Sam goes on a date with Andrew. She wears quite wholesome, sky blue dresses, and nothing too racy. In general, I think the clothes of Foyle's War predict the 1980s - shoulder pads and sculpted hair - women with power and serious jobs." They are peas in a pod and share similar sensibilities. They are also both widowers," says Alan. "I hadn't worked with Michael before but it was a good experience. Philip Ziegler in his book, London at War, describes how civil administration almost ceased to exist. The most notorious example was West Ham, where "hideous mistakes were made". Blake has somehow managed to get out of fighting and by pulling some strings has landed up spending the war in a country guest house. He doesn't think he should do his bit to protect king and country, he wants to sit out the war and see if he can capitalise on it while others are doing the hard work. He spends most of his time trying to persuade a Jewish financier to go into partnership with him to buy up cotton mills - which is hardly the Blitz spirit.

Rex flies with Andrew Foyle and they are old school friends. He always defends Andrew and in one scene gets involved in a brawl. I was told to run into the middle of the bar, flatten Damian O'Hare and then spin around and pull off this guy who was punching Julian Ovenden. It was great. Ultimately, high-powered political forces over which Foyle has no control wade in when this small town murder investigation puts at risk the vital donation of American aid and the crucial start of Land-Lease in the war. It was amazing to get such a great reaction. I think it's the mood of the whole series and the way it's presented. There's some incredible detail, such as when Sam gets made homeless because the house where she's staying is bombed. I'm sure it must have happened to a lot of people and the details of all those facets of life in the war make it very real.

Tom has enjoyed a long and successful career on stage and screen. He starred as tough cop Harry Naylor in Between The Lines, and his other many credits include The Manageress, City Central, Liverpool One and Cause of Death on television, and the films Land Girls, A Fish Called Wanda and Morality Play. He plays a detective inspector in the forthcoming new Poirot films. I researched the period for a Noel Coward play I was in, called Peace In Our Time. It's one of my favourite periods of history because it was so romantic - lovers being torn apart and fighting for their country. I love the dress and even used my own 1940s shoes I got from the play for Connie in Foyle's War. I've just completed an episode of A Touch of Frost playing a tango dancer, which is very different to my costume drama roles. Ballroom dancing at competition level is very tough, stiff and starchy. But I love new challenges and it was great to do something completely different." Amanda is great, she is completely off the wall. She is eccentric and slightly mad and I really enjoyed playing her, even though she is very selfish by hiding away during the war. I worked closely with the make-up designer to give her a slightly eccentric look and the costume designer gave me some wonderful clothes. This section possibly contains original research. ( July 2022) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) St Just, in Croft Road, Hastings, was used as the location for Foyle's home. [6] Cancellation and revival [ edit ] I play a health minister in Absolute Power - a man who claims to be urban fox watching at two in the morning. It's good fun and most of my scenes are with Stephen Fry. Of course, playing a cabinet minister touting on the heath has absolutely no connection to anyone in real life. The answers seem to lie buried deep in the past, in a supposedly more innocent age, amidst Oxford's dreaming spires. They involve a close friendship, a terrible betrayal and a strange cone-shaped piece of metal. In his attempt to bring a surprising murderer to justice, Foyle enters increasingly murky waters and must rely on the integrity of a German spy.
