Clear and readable, Business Analysis encompasses basic BA tools and techniques together with modern ideas such as design thinking and customer experience. Decent book covering the Business Analysis discipline. It's well written and quite thorough with just a few typos. It covers the general processes in business analysis projects from initiation, developing solutions and gathering and modelling requirements. Questions can be lined up and answered at intervals, without interrupting the teacher’s flow of thought. There is no difference in the level of interaction – in fact distractions are significantly reduced because of this way of teaching. Our trainers have a minimum of 10 years training experience, plus have previously run and managed live projects, so have real-life experience they bring to the virtual session. This is very much in keeping with the third edition just more detail on the agile including the principles underlying agile approach and more detail on the stages of the generic agile model. You do not read a book like this purely for pleasure, at least I can't think of many people who would. I have been slowly going through it to remind myself of some Business Analysis techniques which I've got a bit rusty on, for professional reasons. This is a thorough coverage of the role of the BA, and includes much useful material and pointers to further resources, but it is a little dull. Worthy and reasonably comprehensive rather than pithy, fun reading! Business analysis is at a critical point in its development. Despite recognition of the relevance of analytical thinking, questions have been raised for several years about the need for specialist business analysts amid suggestions that anyone can perform this role. Respect for business analysts has increased in many quarters but diminished in others. Comments that ‘anyone can call themselves a business analyst’ are still made all too frequently but, if this is accurate, where is the place for the professional business analysis practitioner and how does this impact recognition of the business analyst role? Further, what does this say about the work carried out by practising business analysts if they can be so easily dismissed and other roles feel that they could so easily carry out any business analysis themselves?
