If I was not in the middle of a Teen Reading Challenge and fully immersed in YA books, I would blame myself for not liking this book. But this book feels like a New Adult premise with a Middle Grade reading level so it was labeled YA. The pacing was so fast but with virtually nothing happening for the first half, it was almost a DNF. All in all, Nightmare Before Christmas fans will find enjoyment from this book in terms of holiday world-building, but I don't think many will consider it truly canon.

Did we miss something on diversity?

Sally appears as a supporting character in the sequel comic book, Zero's Journey. She makes later appearances on the covers of Editions, and even the graphic novels. As a NBC fan ever since the movie came out when I was 6, so much so that I have a Sally Tattoo taking up my entire right arm... What the hell is this shit?!? Sally's voice actress from the original movie, Catherine O'Hara, previously worked with Tim Burton on the 1988 movie Beetlejuice. Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Sally’s new title saddles her to be a more public figure in Halloween Town, much to her dismay. After all of the holiday towns are asleep, Sally now has to grapple with the consequences of her actions and tries to find a way to save them.The Perfectionist: Ruby Valentino, Queen of Valentine's Town, is so obsessed with how her town looks that merely seeing a single bleeding heart flower is enough to set her off. We wait for death. We hold our breath. We know it's coming, and still we flinch when it claws at our throats and pulls us under.” Due to the fact that she's mostly made up of sewn together body parts Sally is largely invunerable to bodily harm, surviving a potentially deadly fall from a tall tower of Doctor Finklesteins, albiet in pieces. It's also shown that her limbs can move independently from her body, through a scene where she attempts to distract Oogie Boogie with one of her legs while trying to rescue Santa. I really enjoyed this book. A few things to say though. One, you will have wanted to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas movie before reading this book.
