The Owl Who Was Afraid Kate, HRH The Duchess Of Cambridge - The Owl Who Was Afraid

The story is about a young barn owl called Plop, who is frightened of the dark. The plot is divided into seven chapters, each covering a night during which Plop learns something new about the dark: dark is exciting, dark is kind, dark is fun, dark is necessary, dark is fascinating, dark is wonderful and dark is beautiful. Plop is gradually persuaded that the dark has its advantages. The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark Chapter 1 Comprehension for Whole Class Guided Reading includes differentiated questions and activities based on chapter one of the popular story by Jill Tomlinson.* We recommend using this novel with Year 2. In the first chapter, Plop (a baby barn owl) tells his mum that he is afraid of the dark and wants to be a day bird. His mum suggests that he should get to know more about the dark before he makes up his mind! So Plop goes to speak to a boy who is collecting fire wood for a bonfire. The boy explains that he is excited about the dark as that is when the fireworks start. Plop and his parents enjoy watching the fireworks in the dark. The duchess, who is the royal patron of Place2Be, a children's mental health charity, will appear on the CBeebies show to mark Children's Mental Health Week.
