About this deal

As we stated earlier, the Fellow Ode brew grinder was designed for manual brewing methods- and it does an excellent job at what it is intended to do. It is not designed for espresso and so does not grind fine enough for that. Right out of the box, this is a sexy AF grinder. I want to leave my grinder on the counter, and most of them are eyesores. I really hated looking at my Vario every day. It is ugly, simple fact. For some people, this isn't a concern. However just like people take looks into consideration when purchasing kitchen countertops, a car, or other appliances, I want my stuff to be appealing to look at; especially if it is sitting on my counter 365 days a year. Updated Catch Cup- The catch cup is slightly bigger, given the larger hopper capacity. It is also now easier to pour out coffee grounds.

REDUCED GRIND NOISEFrom high-quality materials to ditching the noisy gearbox, Ode was designed with quietness in mind. The Fellow Ode Grinder is very easy to use. To grind, weigh out your beans, select your preferred grind setting, and press the start button. One of the very outstanding features of the Fellow Ode grinder is its auto-stop function. The grinder can detect zero resistance in the burrs and automatically turn it off. Lastly, there are some complaints about mess. This might be the most valid concern out of everything, the grinder does seem to really like throwing chaff around. However its a very minor issue with RDT and I normally drip more coffee everywhere than the grinder produces mess. I've never had a mess-free grinding experience personally. Some users have ran into issues with beans jamming up their burrs. Again, this is an issue that seems more prevalent in earlier models that I've never once experienced in 3lbs+ of beans through the grinder and can't really comment on. You want to make espresso: If your favorite home brewing method is an espresso machine, Moka pot, or the Aeropress, you’re better off with the Fellow Opus grinder. If for some strange reason you don’t like Fellow products, then something like the Rancilio coffee grinder or the Baratza Vario will do nicely.Ode Brew Grinder is our original award-winning grinder designed for brewed coffee. Ode Brew Grinder Gen 2 comes as an upgrade to the original, refreshed with some thoughtful new features to improve your daily coffee brewing experience. Professional-grade stainless steel flat burrs reduce grind time and heat generation while increasing grind particle consistency. The lid sports underside a chart that suggests the best grind setting for a given brew method. This is a good idea, but some experts have pointed out that the recommendations are better suited to porous dark roasts than denser light roasts. Durability – 4/5 Edit: removed username of moderator. While it still blows my mind that they don't want quality OC in the subreddit, they don't deserve to be harassed. Replacing the burrs is an easy option but adds to the cost. In 2022, Fellow released a second generation model of the Ode with a new-and-improved burr set. Watch Steven from Home Grounds review it in this video: Price – 4/5

Ode knows exactly when the last bean has been ground and automatically shuts itself off. No more awful revving noise when your grinder spins on empty. Bigger Load Bin: The new ground coffee catch bin is now 100g as opposed to 80g on the Gen 1. Better for bigger brew servings. Trusted Source Healthy Drinks | The Nutrition Source | Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health With so many options, it’s easy to be confused about which beverages are best for our health. Coffee and tea, without added sweeteners, are healthy choices. Measurements were done with Jonathan Gagne's app, pictures taken with a DSLR, and lens correction applied with Photoshop. Note that these densities are weighted by the grind size assuming mass proportional to volume, same as the grind size app. So it's not the number of particles of a particular size but rather the mass of the coffee found in grounds of that size. Used the same numbers/formulas as that app so these measurements aren't without their caveats. However I think the relative comparisons are still useful. The Gen 2 burrs seem to deal well with a range of roast levels, producing a balanced flavor profile. The cups are sweet and balanced with a heavier body and medium clarity. This grinder is a tad messier than others in its class. It seems to be prone to static, which leads to bits of chaff floating about or collecting where you don’t want them. For an easy solution, try the Ross Droplet Technique ( 1).

I spent some time with my SSP burrs and the dry erase marker over the weekend and as far as I can tell, there's no obvious uneven wear occurring when the burrs chirp. One potential difficulty with the marker method and the SSP unimodal burrs is that edges of the burr aren't perfectly flat. That is, the burrs only rub on the raised edges rather than uniformly across a smooth surface. The Fellow Ode Brew Grinder is an undeniably brilliant grinder straight out of the box. Killer looks, plenty of quirky features and great grind quality make this grinder perfect for any serious filter coffee connoisseur. After getting comfortable with the machine and running through a couple pounds of beans for a good season, I did some Fellow Ode cuppings vs my Comandante. I tested primarily with lighter to medium roasts. The Comandante brews have more flavor but also more acidity; currently I'm enjoying the balance of clarity and flavor in the Ode+SSP brews the most. Its giving me a flavorful cup that's got acidity without being too sour, along with prominent and enjoyable flavors of fruit/nut/chocolate. If I throw a little cream (it tastes good, sue me) into a good South American coffee it's almost like I'm drinking a hot chocolate.
