Reading in chunks: Struggling readers read word by word. They don’t read groups of words. Efficient readers read groups of words and this is called reading in chunks. Poor readers try to recognize each word and in this process they don’t get the meaning of sentences. Children with difficulty in reading may be encouraged to read in chunks so that they can make sense of what they read.
