About this deal

The Wand Company’s Tenth Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver universal remote control is a beautifully designed and highly detailed working prop replica of the David Tennant’s iconic gadget. The Sonic certainly looks the business, you can extend and retract the top section with a simple slide. It is a sensitive device and the gestures do not need to be forceful or dramatic, just positive and accurate. Since this Twelfth Doctor’s Second Sonic Screwdriver appeared at the end of series 9, we have been inundated by fan requests to produce a toy replica as part of our toy range.

Note a silent version of this function is accessed by pressing the button 4 times quickly, while in FX Mode, and holding down the fourth press. The authentic flicking action allows the Sonic to be used in exactly the same way the Doctor uses it. In the event that the Lock Code is forgotten, it may be erased completely by taking the batteries out and putting them back in again. This second Sonic for the Twelfth Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, was ‘gifted’ to him by the TARDIS itself after his previous version was lost. This new toy version is a faithful recreation of the current Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver which debuted in the Series 9 Episode ‘Hell Bent’. After two minutes without any movement, the Sonic Screwdriver runs a quick diagnostic routine then the tip flashes and it transmits a Morse code message to confirm that it is OK.

While we have carefully copied the surface texture of the original prop, due to the limitations of the injection moulding process and the method of creating a pattern on the inside of a mould, there are slight differences between the Sonic Screwdriver URC and the original prop’s surface finish. The real prop also has a protruding button soldered on to a square cut out in the grip material, which the actors use to make the tip glow when the script requires it. With the redesign came a whole new life for the tool which now became much more prevalent, appearing in almost every episode and boasting an expanded repertoire of tricks up its sleeve.

Hold a normal remote control about 3 cm from the tip of the Sonic while the tip is glowing steadily, and briefly press and release the normal remote control button for the function you want to program on to that gesture. This multipurpose tool features numerous settings and can open most locks, detect all manner of deadly rays, read bio-signs and generate Sonic waves of great power. To program the Sonic, perform the desired gesture; the Sonic will say which gesture has been done, then its tip will glow steady green to signify that it is waiting to receive the IR code (button press) from a normal remote control. This means that “tap-on-the-top” is always a tap on the side of the Sonic facing upwards regardless of the rotation of the Sonic and hence the position of the grip button.
