I mentioned how much I liked it in one of my Five Frugal Things posts a few weeks ago but thought it was worthy of a post of its own – especially when I discovered a few other perfumes that smell like much more expensive fragrances. Another dirt cheap clone that can hold up to the double C’s, this one hits the floral dry down just right while being a more summery, fruity version of Coco Mademoiselle. The fragrance itself starts with a burst of citrus–reminiscent of mandarin orange and bergamot and then has a dry down settled in strong patchouli notes and white musk. The verdict: Considering I bought this before I even realised it was so similar to its more expensive counterpart I would definitely recommend this one.

Also, the bottle is a beautiful exaggerated oval shape in salmon tones that I think just stands out well in a personal fragrance collection. In my opinion, So Elixir is an excellent lighter alternative to Coco Mademoiselle as the dry down is more based on florals. The rose notes are also less present than Coco Mademoiselle so it adds a spicy airiness to the fragrance– pretty great for warmer months.John Varvatos barely misses the mark for me as a modern style chypre, with its top notes being a little less noticeable than that of Coco Mademoiselle. It is debatable whether or not Shiseido Zen is an exact dupe of Coco Mademoiselle, but there is no doubt that the two are pretty similar.

This bottle is so pretty that I would buy it just for that and the perfume really does smell lovely. It smells very similar to Marc Jacobs Daisy but I can tell the difference ever so slightly – probably because I love the original version of this perfume and bought Miss F a small bottle for Christmas last year. She wears it quite regularly which is why I’m probably more aware that the smell is slightly different. It has very definite similarities though and I would imagine that most people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. So close in scent, if you’d smell it with eyes closed, you’d mistake it for a dupe; Miss Dior Cherie has the same type of timelessness to its aroma with just hints of differences. There are a lot of ways to achieve that Chanel feel without having to shell out the cash and because there is such a wide variety of little changes within each dupe, you can find the one that fits absolutely right with you. When it came to longevity, Woody Oakmoss pleasantly surprised me. It clung to my skin for most of the day, although it didn’t quite match Coco Mademoiselle’s staying power. The scent’s projection was softer than Chanel’s but still noticeable enough to draw compliments. The perfume held its character well on my skin, but keep in mind, individual experiences may vary.John Varvatos’ slightly sweeter take on the top notes also allows this fragrance to be more suitable to day wear than Coco Mademoiselle, coming just a little short of that mature structure that Chanel is known for. I’ve compiled a guide with my favorite alternatives if you are looking for something that won’t break the bank but will still leave you smelling like Coco Mademoiselle. Chanel Coco Mademoiselle: A Brief Introduction Miss Frugal, who’s recently discovered a love of perfume, doesn’t have the same brand loyalty when it comes to perfume and she smells different every day thanks to her ever growing collection of fragrances and her unashamed used of my perfumes.

My verdict? If you enjoy the allure of Coco Mademoiselle but cringe at the price, Dossier’s Woody Oakmoss is worth a shot. It may not be an exact replica, but it captures the essence brilliantly and gets close enough to turn heads.Overall, Coco Mademoiselle is a very distinguished, lively, and energetic perfume. The keynotes and personality of Mademoiselle are pretty much different from other Chanel fragrances. So, if you don’t like heavy, floral scents but still wanna try Chanel’s fragrances – here is your best bet. I don’t think any perfume lover could deny the timelessness of Chanel–the classic brand has practically aged alongside the perfume and fashion industry since our parents were young. It is a perfect signature fragrance not only because of its versatility for day or night, but also because its longevity is something out of this world–lasting sometimes for a 24 hour period. The citrusy top notes are a bit sweeter in this one, but the distinct patchouli base note shines through in Miss Tutu. The dry down settles into a clean white floral, fruity essence that I think better suits the Spring and Autumn months. The opening fragrance mixes the same citrus and bergamot of Coco Mademoiselle but with just the lightest touch of pineapple, giving it a more sweet twist to the opening.
