I ached for the event that turned a frightened boy into a villain, laughed at the acronym BIKER, and enjoyed reading. Nearly took a star off for the lack-of-communication/misunderstanding between main characters which is a romance format that always irritates me. Unbeknownst to Merritt, Hulda Larkin, a valuable employee of the ‘Boston Institute for the Keeping of Enchanted Rooms’ (BIKER! At first, the writing might seem a bit confusing and disjointed, as the author explores two completely disparate people, in completely different countries. Living at the house with Merritt, Hulda (as the "housekeeper"), and "house" (to be explained in the story), are Baptiste, the chef, and Beth (an additional employee from BIKES), two other characters that I couldn't help loving.

She is a tamer of possessed and enchanted houses and sees it as her duty to preserve the disappearing magic in such ancient houses.One of the best reads of this year, so happy there will be more stories of this fantastic gang, Heir of Uncertain Magic. While most meanings are guessable if you know their meanings in English, it's worth going through the list as they come up regularly in the plot. I won’t even get into my favorite character, Owein, who stole the show and is sure to steal your heart as well.After an entire book of those feelings growing, and after Merritt laid his heart out so beautifully for her, I closed the last page extremely unsatisfied. The characters' past are also revealed to one other in a more subtle and genuine approach than all at once.

Holmberg…has a deft hand portraying internal emotional responses…Keeper of Enchanted Rooms combines lighthearted entertainment and nail-biting excitement. I'm surprised with how highly rated this book is as it's one of the worst books that I've read recently. However, they both soon realise that their residence has far more secrets than they initially assumed, and the dangers to them might not come from the house alone. There is one line about how one servant (who never has a physical description) doesn't want to visit the South. Keeper of Enchanted Rooms takes place in the mid-1800s, mainly in Rhode Island, but there are scenes set in England.since star mother, though, the writing feels contrived and shallow and the books drawn-out longer than they need to be, with repetitive inner monologues taking the place character development.

This was the perfect story to wrap up the spooky season, and I especially loved the audiobook narration as well. My only complaint about book 1 is the romance of will they or won't they was drawn out and at times rather annoying. Then comes the newly hired maid, Beth, with her own abilities and foresight, and Baptiste, who grunts and lumbers, but cooks the most delicious meals. As soon as Merritt enters the house he knows it is no ordinary house, as it contorts around him and traps him in his very own house of horrors.

The plot moves along well and the characters grow and develop (growing on the reader as well) as the plot progresses. Merritt Fernsby had recently sold his second novel to his publisher, finds Whimbrel House a great opportunity to finish his book, safe and sound. Slight spoiler ahead in the relationship area** The story ended without Hulda ever speaking her feelings where Merritt is concerned. Merritt and Hulda are fantastic together, him so messy and disorganized, her so strictly controlled and structured.
