One reason for this is a new compression method, called H.266 or VVC (Versatile Video Coding). This is the successor to the H.265 compression used currently for 4K Blu-rays, and apparently offers the same level of (subjective) image quality, but it requires about half the data. Of course, whether the movie theater chains would ever allow a 'better-than-the-silver-screen' format to be released without revolting is another question. (The answer is: no.) Does this even need a new disc at all? Calibrated with Calman color calibration software and Portrait Displays C6 HDR2000 colorimeter from Portrait.com) Blu-rays tend to have more advanced audio processing and formats, such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and other formats that allow for less compression of the sound. Which should mean higher quality. My belief is that the latest release should be the *definitive* release containing everything that came before it. Disney clearly thinks differently :-(

Some players come with a built-in wi-fi connection. This is useful if you want smart features but don’t want to trail ethernet cables around your house. Audio outputsThe color palette is quite bold in any lands of Westeros and it is revealed in each season that boasts both earthy tones and magical realms with everything in between to a tee. Season one, episode one of Game Of Thrones started in April of 2011, which was the same year that the first Thor film was released and Fast Five drifted onto the big screen. It was that long ago. The point is that some ten years ago, the video technology wasn't as advanced and clear as it is today so as each season progresses, the detail and the color get a bit better with of course season seven and eight being the stand-outs of the series. I loved seasons one and two. The escalation of the tensions between Winterfell and King's Landing drive them while the lesser but integral subplots following Arya Stark, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen provide an added and enriching layer to the proceedings. The culmination of both seasons come together as the war of the five kings escalates, resulting in treachery and bloodshed throughout the land. The second part of this is to remind people what's been happening over the years and offers a viewpoint, but of course, draw your own conclusions. The primary plots play out over the course of the season three. The ones that I found to be the most interesting/entertaining were Jon Snow and Ygritte, the evolution of Jaime and Brienne’s relationship (the bear pit!), the wedding of Tyrion and Sansa and its effects on Shae, the unrelenting cruelty of Joffrey counterbalanced by Tywin’s affirming interference, my girl Daenerys Targaryen obtaining “The Unsullied” and continuing her unswayable quest, the Brotherhood Without Banners, the Hound and Arya, Tyrell family matriarch Lady Olenna and her insightful manipulation of those around her, last but not least is “The Rains of Castamere” and the wedding, wow. wintry scenes in particular look slightly cooler now, and there are some beautiful orange-amber highlights to some of the almost sepia toned

When we test Blu-ray players we make sure that we've got all angles covered, so that when you buy one you can do so with confidence. Of course we rate the picture and sound quality, but Which?'s unique testing goes deeper than that. When it comes to connectivity, the PS5 has a single HDMI out. Some Blu-ray players offer more. The premium Panasonic DP-UB9000 has two HDMIs, with one dedicated purely to audio (useful if you’re feeding a screen and an AV receiver). There’s also optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, stereo analogue phonos and a full 7.1 channel output, plus balanced Neutrik XLR stereo connectors – all perhaps of interest to home theater nerds. (OK, we admit we don’t use them all.)There will always be people – and lots of them – for whom the convenience of streaming trumps the ‘hassle’ of buying films on discs. Particularly if they’re not prone to watching films multiple times; they just don’t care about the extra immersion you get with truly top quality picture and sound; or they don’t have a home cinema system (big, high quality TV and some sort of good quality Dolby Atmos sound system) required to get the best out of everything a movie disc has to offer. On episode one we get Production Designer Deborah Riley and writer/co-producer Dave Hill, who prove enthusiastic and engaging talkers about their relative disciplines. Higher resolution makes for a sharper image, that's a given. But when it comes to colour and contrast, things are less certain. While you might have heard of 8K TVs, 4K is the latest standard of image quality when it comes to Blu-ray players. It’s an incredible four times sharper than Full HD, displaying content in a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160. It’s worth bearing in mind that to get the benefits of high quality viewing with 4K UHD, you’ll need a 4K-ready TV and 4K Blu-ray discs. Standard Full HD Game of Thrones: Reunion Special: A two-part reunion show shot live in Belfast with the cast, both past and present, hosted by Conan O’Brien and available exclusively on these complete series collections.
