Description

Our OSCE revision guide has been crafted by the Geeky Medics team, experts in producing high-yield OSCE revision materials for medical and healthcare students. An OSCE is designed to be an objective and standardised method of assessing students’ clinical competence. Candidates complete a series of timed activities ( OSCE stations) in a circuit. Each station has a trained examiner who assesses the students’ performance against a standardised scoring sheet. Under the new changes, from 16 July 2018, test centres will only require applicants to re-sit the parts of the OSCE assessment they failed and will not need to re-sit parts of the exam they have previously passed As part of the ongoing development of the Test of Competence OSCE for midwifery, we have made some changes to the existing assessments and released a small number of new stations which will come into use from Monday 26 June. These changes will ensure a wider coverage of the standards, code of practice and blueprint and forms part of our routine maintenance to keep the test valid and reliable.

OSCE stations should be mapped to the curriculum of the course you are completing. You should not be expected to complete a task that you haven’t been taught yet. For example, you should only be assessed on clinical procedures you have been taught. Four stations are linked together around a scenario: the APIE (one station for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation) During the pilot period, around 100 candidates were provided with a Viva delivered across a range of different stations, demonstrating its agility to be applied effectively as designed across the OSCE. Under the new changes, from 16 July 2018, test centres will only require applicants to re-sit the parts of the OSCE assessment they failed and will not need to re-sit parts of the exam they have previously passed.

OSCEs require a significant amount of planning and coordination to design and run (for example, every station needs an examiner who are all usually practicing clinicians). This often limits the number of stations which can be run. You may be able to appeal if you believe that the process was compromised during the exam or an irregularity occurred in the conduct of the examination. The University’s ASSIST team provides advice for students with additional needs to promote equal opportunities and help for disabled students to allow them to achieve their full potential. Disabilities include: If you’re interested in OnlineMedEd , use this promo code: MDJourney25 to get 25% discount! It is valid for annual memberships only (Core and PA). Some medical schools may provide information on the breakdown of OSCE stations (for example, how many clinical examination stations etc.). Practice your OSCE technique

Forget any bad stations: OSCE examinations have multiple stations, the examiners do not communicate between themselves during the stations. Therefore, if you have a bad station try to move on and focus on the next station – the examiner watching you doesn’t know what happened in a previous station! An assessment tool based on the principles of objectivity and standardisation, in which the candidates move through a series of time-limited stations in a circuit for the purposes of assessment of professional performance in a simulated environment. At each station, candidates are assessed and marked against standardised scoring rubrics by trained assessors’’ (Khan et al, 2013) Aside from individual topics and videos, Online MedEd also offers a complete four-year curriculum. A team of medical practitioners created the course to make medicine easily understandable.

The Code - these are the professional standards that everyone on our register must uphold throughout their practise. Someone at the test centre will also take your photograph for your ID that you need to wear while you're there. I need to update my passport Test specifications show how the test is designed, what it will assess and how, and how results will be produced and presented. We are aware that some organisations and consultancies are offering OSCE preparation training sessions for candidates for the Test of Competence. Please be aware that by attending these courses you do so at your own discretion. These training sessions are not endorsed or approved by either the University of Northampton or the NMC and could prepare you inaccurately for the test.

In a separate column is a collection of key information: potential findings, differential diagnoses of clinical signs and practical tips.

Do you have OSCE examinations coming up?

Practice on non-medical friends/family: often, practising on fellow healthcare students is less realistic (as the volunteer patient knows what to expect) – try practicing on any willing non-medical friends and family, this will also be a good test of your communication skills!

His highly-informative videos range from thirty minutes to three and a half hours in length. Up until now, he is still adding to his extensive catalog by uploading regularly. You can access his 400+ video lectures for free on YouTube. Our OSCE bank (a.k.a. OSCE cases) is ideal for students at all stages of training, including those wanting to practice OSCE stations for medical finals. We also provide free sample OSCE stations for all of the station types. New: AI virtual patients Osmosis is a widely used platform for teaching and learning medicine and healthcare. Many institutions use Osmosis to teach, like the Morehouse School Of Medicine, Miller School of Medicine, and more. Usually, each OSCE station has allocated time for the students to read the station instructions and don any required PPE. Some OSCE stations (for example, data interpretation) may provide additional information for students to review before they enter the station. Although OSCEs are mostly used to assess practical skills, there will be theoretical knowledge required to successfully pass some stations. For example, data interpretation stations may include questions on the investigation and management of the condition being presented. The upcoming Geeky Medics OSCE Revision Bookis the ideal OSCE revision guide, summarising over 50 clinical examinations.
