Description

Between late September 2004 and Jurassic World‘s opening date at the end of May 2005, any Carnotaurus that still survived on Isla Sorna would have been shipped to Isla Nublar. Notable for the thick horns above its eyes, Carnotaurus is a theropod from the Late Cretaceous period. Once he lost interest in the rock, Toro began sniffing the group out as they were climbing the stairs to the park's monorail, eventually becoming alerted by their presence when the monorail's automated greeting played.

The groups are led by a dominant individual, in this case a male dubbed “Big Red,” who leads charges in defense of territory and during hunts. Any carnotaurs so far from their original location in North America are probably escapees from captivity, having been transplanted onto new continents by human intervention. He found them again after Darius and Yasmina Fadoula attempted to break open a vent cover, breaking through one behind them in an attempt to get to Brooklynn, although the group eventually managed to escape once they succeeded at breaking the cover in front of them. As the episode progresses where Ben gains courage, he battles Toro with Bumpy, now a sub-adult, coming in recently, and they send him falling down a cliff. In 2016, Toro was captured and controlled by Mantah Corp while being taken to its island alongside a Dimorphodon, a male Baryonyx named Limbo and Bumpy. During the events of Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous, Toro appears extremely aggressive, much like most carnivores bred for Jurassic World, especially after his snout was injured while attempting to devour Darius. Toro was meant to appear in Jurassic World: Dominion in place of the Carnotaurus with the broken horn, however, the executive producer of Camp Cretaceous, Scott Kreamer said that it didn't fit well in the story, and Toro was sadly cut from the film.

Some show distinctly more vibrant colors, with dark gray on the head and spine while other parts of the body are rich orange; these are commonly assumed to be males (though see Sexual Dimorphism below). It is unlikely, but possible, that the presence of chromatophores in the skin is limited to specimens originally bred by InGen on Site B, and that they are absent in those bred on Isla Nublar during the twenty-first century. This has led some paleontologists to conclude that Carnotaurus preyed on the much smaller animals of its South American habitat, though not everyone concurs: another school of thought speculates that, since Carnotaurus still had a bite twice as powerful as that of an American alligator, it might have teamed up to prey on plus-sized titanosaurs! Carnotaurus is known from a single, yet almost nearly complete skeleton and several skin impressions, with only the tail and lower legs missing. The viewer can then choose for Darius to distract the dinosaurs, allowing the others to enter Hal Brimford's underground bunker. While it may hunt by ambush, its speed gives it an edge; it excels at chasing down prey items and is shown to be perfectly capable of tackling prey from a position out in the open. Still, the Carnotaurus is persistent and has good endurance, so it can pursue prey over long distances until the prey collapses from exhaustion. The jaws are less developed, though its legs are already strong and it is capable of running from an early age.

The Carnotaurus is possibly a reference to the " Carnotaur" from Disney's Dinosaur who had dark red colouration throughout the top of its head and to the tip of its tail. It lived in close proximity to other large carnivores on Isla Nublar, such as Baryonyx, Allosaurus, and Tyrannosaurus; while it may have competed with Allosaurus for prey, it would probably not have faced competition from the fish-eating Baryonyx. From here, he entered the maintenance tunnels, pursuing survivors of the incident south to Ferry Landing. This theropod is highly territorial and will approach an invader with a bold display, gaping its jaw and showing its horns while roaring. Most recently, Carnotaurus has become one of the contentious subjects of the de-extinct animal rights controversy. As the juvenile's fight began, French Intelligence stopped a deal occurring just outside the market, and Rainn Delacourt attempted to escape by running back through the market pursued by Owen Grady. Any other animals remaining on the island would either have died during the eruption and its immediate aftermath, or starved due to a lack of prey. The leader, in this particular case, reestablished his dominance by biting at the subordinate animal and taking the lead again.
